Most people assume life insurance requires a doctor's visit, blood work, and weeks of waiting to find out if they are approved. That is not always true. No medical exam life insurance, including guaranteed issue policies, removes every one of those barriers. No needles. No waiting rooms. No medical records requests. Just a straightforward application and a fast approval decision. Here is everything you need to know about how it works and whether it is the right option for you.

No medical exam life insurance — guaranteed approval without blood tests or doctor visits

What Is No Medical Exam Life Insurance?

No medical exam life insurance is exactly what it sounds like — coverage that does not require a physical examination as part of the approval process. There are two primary categories within this space, and understanding the difference matters for finding the right fit.

Simplified issue policies skip the medical exam but still ask health questions. Your answers to those questions, combined with database checks on your prescription history and other records, determine your eligibility and rate. Many carriers offer simplified issue policies with same-day or next-day decisions for qualified applicants. Coverage amounts through simplified issue can be substantial — in some cases up to $1 million or more.

Guaranteed issue policies go one step further, they ask no health questions at all and guarantee approval for any eligible applicant within the specified age range. Guaranteed issue policies are specifically designed for people who cannot qualify for simplified issue or standard underwriting due to serious health conditions, who have been declined by other carriers, or who simply want the certainty of knowing they will be approved without any underwriting risk.

What Is Guaranteed Issue Life Insurance?

Guaranteed issue, sometimes called guaranteed acceptance life insurance, is a permanent whole life policy that approves all eligible applicants regardless of health history. There is no medical exam, no health questions, and no possibility of being declined based on your health if you are within the eligible age range (typically 50 to 85, though this varies by carrier). Carriers offering guaranteed issue policies include Corebridge Financial, American Amicable, and others that Life Insured By Chris works with across the market.

Because guaranteed issue policies accept all applicants without health screening, there is a trade-off: most include a graded death benefit provision for the first two years. This means that if the insured passes away from natural causes within the first two years of the policy, the beneficiary receives the premiums paid plus interest rather than the full death benefit. After the two-year period, the full death benefit is in force for the rest of the insured's life. Death from accidental causes is typically covered in full from day one.

Guaranteed issue policies are most commonly used to cover final expenses — funeral costs, burial expenses, outstanding medical bills, and other end-of-life obligations — and are a lifeline for seniors and individuals with serious health conditions who would otherwise have no path to coverage.

Who Should Consider No Medical Exam or Guaranteed Issue Coverage?

No medical exam life insurance is a strong fit for anyone who wants fast coverage without the friction of a medical appointment — particularly young and healthy applicants who simply prefer the convenience. Guaranteed issue is the right tool for seniors with significant health conditions, individuals who have been declined by other carriers, people who need final expense coverage quickly and simply, and anyone for whom traditional underwriting is not a viable path.

Life Insured By Chris will always help you find the least restrictive, and most cost-effective, path to coverage based on your actual situation. If you qualify for simplified issue at a competitive rate, that will almost always be a better value than guaranteed issue. If guaranteed issue is your best or only option, he will find the right carrier and the right policy for your situation.
